It is opened and its lock checked, as part of [repairs after a break-in](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/burglary-repair-guardamar/). ## From the least damaging way to the last resort 1. **Power.** New batteries, or power fed through the external terminals. 2. **The override key.** If there is one and it can be found, or the lock behind it worked. 3. **The maker.** Some makers can help the proven owner with a reset; it takes time. 4. **Drilling at one point.** Only when nothing else works, with your agreement, and the lock repaired or replaced afterwards. Has it lost the code? Usually not. Most electronic safes keep the code with flat batteries. New batteries, fed through the outside terminals if the safe has them, open many safes with nothing more done to them. ### The safe came with the flat and nobody gave us the code. Whose is it to open? Yours, if the flat is yours: ask the sellers and the agency first, since a code or override key often turns up. If not, show the deeds or the purchase contract and it is opened for you. ### Will the safe still be usable once it is open? Often. Power, the override key or working the lock leave it as it was. If drilling is the only way, it is done at one precise point and the lock is repaired or replaced afterwards, which tends to cost less than a new safe. ### Where should a safe go in a bungalow or a flat by the beach? Bolted into solid concrete or brick, out of sight from windows and away from the main bedroom wardrobe if possible.
